The Galaxy S26 has only been on the market for a week and Samsung already has its head set on the next major update. The leaker Tarun Vats has located the first internal builds of One UI 9 —based on Android 17— on the company's servers. The specific build, identified as BZC5, confirms that internal testing has begun, although at the moment there is nothing to see for the end user.

It is not that Samsung works at breakneck speed by vocation: it is that the company is adjusting its development schedule to be more synchronized with Google's release cycles. The objective is to prepare the next jump well in advance, something that has not always been achieved – just remember the delays that occurred One UI 7.

What changes for now?

The first builds are always like this: unstable, with minimal changes and more useful for engineers than for users. What has been seen are brightness and volume controls somewhat larger in the quick settings panel of the Galaxy S26 Ultra, and the parental controls section broken down as a separate section instead of being buried within Digital Wellbeing. Detail changes, without more.

The calendar that is managed indicates that Android 17 It could be presented at Google I/O in May, with a stable version around June. If Samsung maintains last year's pace, a public beta of One UI 9 could arrive in late May or early June, while the stable version would not land until September. And it is most likely that the first devices to receive it will not be the Galaxy S26but the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Z Flip 8, which are expected to arrive with One UI 9 preinstalled.

For those who have just purchased a Galaxy S26, the early start of development is a positive sign about the Samsung commitment to long-term support. With nuances, of course: while the S26 releases One UI 8.5, S25 users are still in the beta phase. The process is advancing, but not precisely at the same speed on all fronts.
