At the beginning of the year, a leak claimed that OnePlus was preparing its withdrawal from international markets. The company itself came forward quickly: the CEO for India called the reports “false,” and the OnePlus North America team assured Android Authority that it continued to operate normally, with after-sales support and software updates assured. It seemed settled. But it wasn't.
Now, the well-known tipster Yogesh Brar has reopened the debate with a new post on X. According to him, OnePlus could be preparing a significant reduction of operations in key markets, although the business in China would remain intact. For India, the focus would shift towards mid-range and low-end devices. And for the US, UK and EU, the situation would be, in their own words, “not good”.
OnePlus has been trapped between two chairs for years
The underlying problem is that OnePlus has been in an uncomfortable position for years. It was born as a flagship killer alternative – reasonable price, powerful hardware, clean software – but over time it increased prices and losing that differential. In Western markets, it competes against Samsung, Google and Apple without the distribution network or marketing muscle that those giants have.
If the scenario described by Brar were to materialize, it would not be a total surprise: concentrating resources in China, where OPPO—the parent company of OnePlus— has a consolidated positionand releasing markets where margins are barely justified has a rather stark business logic.
The claims, in any case, remain unverified. OnePlus has not confirmed anything, and it is not a minor detail: Brar already participated in the first wave of rumors in January, which the company itself ended up denying. Until OnePlus speaks, this is still speculationalthough the second round in less than three months does not help to clear up doubts.
