Huawei has launched a phone that‘s half flip and half fold: the Pura X. What’s new? Why is it causing a stir? Here’s what’s going on with this device.
Huawei’s latest smartphone aims to stand out among foldable phones, a type of phone that has yet to gain widespread market share. What’s interesting about this phone is that, although it’s presented as a flip phone, it opens sideways like a foldable phone, not vertically, which is why it has an unusual 16:10 aspect ratio.
The Pura X has two OLED displays: a 3.5-inch external display with a 980×980 pixel resolution and a refresh rate of up to 120Hz; and a 6.3-inch external display with a 2120×1320 pixel resolution and up to 1440Hz.
Plus, it’s Huawei’s first phone in many ways. First, it abandons Android entirely and instead adopts HarmonyOS Next, the new version of the Chinese tech company’s operating system.
Second, it’s the first flip-style foldable smartphone with three cameras. The phone’s outer casing houses a 50-megapixel main camera, a 40-megapixel ultra-wide-angle macro camera, and an 8-megapixel telephoto lens. It also features a 10.7-megapixel front camera.
Thirdly, the Pura X is also the first smartphone to feature Harmony Intelligence, its AI assistant. This system is based on the Pangu model for home devices and is also enhanced with DeepSeek AI.
Its battery has 4,720 mAh with a 66W fast charging capacity, 40W wireless charging, 7.5W reverse wireless charging, and 5W reverse wired charging.
For the moment, the Huawei Pura X is only available in China for a starting price of 7,499 yuan, equivalent to 1,037 dollars or 20,900 Mexican pesos.
