With the new iPhone 16s just out, Apple is celebrating their launch by releasing a new battery repair guide. Of course, we hope you won’t need to replace the battery in your brand new iPhone 16 anytime soon. But when the time comes, here are all the tools you’ll need to have on hand, according to the Cupertino company.
The most repairable iPhone yet
Apple has been working to make each generation of iPhone more durable for years. But recently, the brand has clearly stepped up its pace in this area. The new Repair Assistant feature is one example, as are the key changes that make the iPhone 16 the most repairable iPhone yet.
Another notable step forward is today’s battery repair guide, which offers a detailed step-by-step guide, complete with annotated photos, to ensure you follow the process correctly.
The 8 essential tools listed by Apple
The guide also lists eight specific tools you’ll need:
- A 9V battery
- 9V battery clips (ref. 923-10726)
- A battery press (ref. 923-02657)
- Ethanol or isopropyl alcohol wipes
- A nylon probe (black stick, ref. 922-5065) or a suction cup
- Safety glasses with side shields
- Sand
- A container for sand
Democratizing battery repair
Apple warns that only technicians “with the knowledge and experience to service electronic devices” should attempt to repair a battery.
That said, it’s a great thing that Apple is making this information available to everyone. While most users won’t be going through with it, this guide should help prevent iPhones from being damaged unnecessarily during repair attempts.
This is a victory for Apple’s environmental goals and for users, making the iPhone 16 even more sustainable over time.
