YouTube blocked Russian media. For this, Russian justice ordered the platform to pay a fine, the amount of which would double on a regular basis. And the amount of this fine would have reached an astronomical sum, since Google never restored the YouTube channels that it decided to suspend.

In a recently published article, Business Insider relays an article from the Russian news agency TASS which quotes a lawyer explaining that the fine would exceed now the equivalent of $20,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 (20 then 33 zeros).

Google will probably never pay this fine. And even if he wanted to, he wouldn’t be able to do it. In fact, the company’s capitalization is $2.16 trillion, or $2,160,000,000,000. Moreover, according to Business Insider’s explanations, even global GDP, estimated at $105 trillion, would not be enough to pay the fine.

  • Google suspended YouTube channels of several Russian media after the invasion of Ukraine
  • A Russian court would have ordered the firm to pay a fine, the amount of which has regularly doubled
  • From now on, the amount of the fine would exceed $20,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000
  • This fine will never be paid, since even Google’s capitalization would not be enough
