For a while, rumors have been circulating about a Samsung folding smartphone that would be more affordable. And according to a recent rumor, it could finally land next year. “Those who were hoping for a Z Flip 7FE should rejoice. It looks like a Samsung FE clamshell is finally coming in 2025”indicates analyst Ross Young, in a publication on the social network
As a reminder, “FE” models are generally slightly more affordable versions of Samsung flagships. And regarding the Galaxy Z Flip7 FE, Ross Young explains that it could have the same screen as the Galaxy Z Flip7. However, the FE model might have a different processor and camera. It is therefore possible that, to lower its costs, Samsung decides to offer a more modest processor and photo sensors on the affordable version of the Galaxy Z Flip7.
Samsung threatened by competition
For the moment, this information should be considered with caution, since it comes from an unofficial source. However, it would make sense for Samsung to think about launching an affordable folding smartphone now. Indeed, the Korean giant faces increasingly tough competition from Chinese brands.
In the second quarter of 2024, it was even overtaken by Huawei, which was world number 1. Fortunately, for Samsung, it once again became the market leader in folding smartphones in the third quarter, thanks to the launch of the Galaxy Z Fold6 and the Galaxy Z Flip6. But it is clear that to keep this place, Samsung must now be more competitive.
