Apple launched the tvOS 18.3 beta program for developers earlier this week, with a likely release in late January, early February. This update brings some minor changes to Apple TV, including one new feature.
Support for robot vacuum cleaners
tvOS 18.3 adds support for robot vacuum cleaners to the app Home on Apple TV. This feature allows you to control power, cleaning modes, vacuuming, washing and charging status. Vacuums can also participate in automations and scenes, and respond to Siri commands. It was something expected by users, Apple took its time.
Minor changes
Removing screensavers
After recently adding a Snoopy screensaver in tvOS 18.2, Apple appears to have canceled or postponed other categories of planned screensavers, such as those based on Apple TV+ series and movies like “Foundation ” and “Soundscapes” with relaxing sounds. References to these screensavers have been removed from tvOS 18.3 code.
Digital sales notice
A new notice in the Apple TV app advises that purchases can be permanently downloaded to devices like iPhone, iPad, Mac or PC, but not to Apple TV or other streaming devices. Apple seems to protect itself legally in the event of litigation.
tvOS 18 updates are compatible with all Apple TV models from 2015 and newer, although some features require the 4K version.
