When we talk about Perplexity, we’re talking about the best AI for information search today. Its search engine and its ability to synthesize all information in an excellent way put it at the top of the podium in this competition. But what if we added the potential of DeepSeek R1 to the work that Perplexity itself does?
Well, there’s good news for Perplexity users: it has added the DeepSeek R1 reasoning model to its capabilities. This version of DeepSeek is outstanding when it comes to tasks like math, programming, and language. Plus, since it’s open source, you can work with it endlessly. But back to Perplexity, let’s see what it brings us this time with DeepSeek.
How to use DeepSeek R1 on Perplexity
First things first, let’s be clear about what each thing is. Perplexity AI, for its part, is an outstanding search engine that provides highly accurate answers to our questions. It uses various AI models to perform all its tasks and provide the most up-to-date information possible.
But if we talk about DeepSeek-R1, we’re looking at a cutting-edge AI model, programmed for large-scale reinforcement learning, and capable of solving complex tasks like no other. Its specialties include mathematics, programming, and language. In fact, it has outperformed models from OpenAI or Google in many benchmarks…
To use DeepSeek within Perplexity, the first thing we’ll need to do is open our browser and go to the Perplexity website. From here, we’ll log in with our account or create one. The next thing we’ll do is start searching, or at least hover over the text box. Right here, we’ll select the search option “Reasoning with R1” (in some versions, it may only appear as “reasoning”).
Optionally, you can go to “Set search sources” if you want to enable the sources from which you want to obtain information.
Search using DeepSeek R1
Now that we’ve finished the preparations, we have the combination of both AIs ready. So don’t be afraid to ask anything and the tool will search for it for you. But be careful, this DeepSeek model is focused on research. Keep this in mind before doing any search to enhance your search within that field.
In any case, whenever you want to view the sources of information, you’ll find a tab called “Sources,” where you’ll find everything.
One of its strengths is that you can also generate images by clicking on the image icon (on the right side of the screen).
We must warn you of something, though. DeepSeek-R1 isn’t 100% free within Perplexity. It’s true that we can access this version, but it’s limited. It’s limited to just three searches per day. If we need more extensive use of this feature, we’ll need to subscribe to Perplexity Pro . This version costs $20 per month and can offer many more queries.
