The scenario
The game’s storyline begins in a dusty and empty room, where you are greeted by a mysterious rabbit who seems to hold the key to the room’s secrets and, perhaps, the inner spirit it represents. The game presents an accessible metaphor for mental well-being, providing players with a simple but calming space to focus on nurturing the room and, in turn, their own emotions.
The objective
Dustbunny invites players to transform a dusty, abandoned room into a lively oasis filled with plants and decorations. However, each plant begins as a small creature called an “Emotibun”, representing different emotions. These creatures must be captured and fed, and slowly grow into plants that populate your once-empty room.
The gameplay
Players engage in heartwarming tasks like watering, fighting pests, and even singing to their plants. In addition to these nourishing activities, you can relax with mini-games, like catching bubbles in your bubble tea, while transforming your bedroom into a safe and comforting space. Unlike some “competitor” titles, you’re always in the action. Certainly quiet, but action nonetheless.
The little extra
What sets Dustbunny apart is that it doesn’t push players through emotional themes at a set pace. Instead, it provides an open space for players to explore these themes at their leisure, encouraging introspection and relaxation. This slower, more flexible approach allows players to interact with their emotions at their own pace, which is rare in many feel-good games.
