According to the latest information shared by analyst Ross Young, the iPad mini 7, equipped with the A17 Pro chip, may be very fast, but it will quickly be left behind by the next model. Indeed, the iPad mini 8 would take a step forward with the integration of OLED technology, already inaugurated on the iPad Pro M4 this year. This move to OLED would offer several significant advantages: “real blacks” thanks to individual pixel lighting, more intense contrast, increased finesse, and above all, better energy efficiency. Enough to offer ideal support to gamers and video enthusiasts.

Mini-OLED

Replacing LCD technology with OLED would have a double benefit: in addition to a more efficient display, the iPad mini 8 could finally offer adaptive screen refreshing. ProMotion technology, introduced by Apple on the iPad Pro in 2017, would allow the screen to go from 1 Hz for a static display to 120 Hz for fluid animations, contrasting with the current screen of the iPad mini which remains stuck at 60 Hz.

The current iPad mini 7

It remains to be seen when the future small iPad will be launched. Ross Young remains cautious and does not give a precise estimate, perhaps because Apple itself has not yet determined it. The iPad mini 7, released this week, took three long years to replace the iPad mini 6. We can therefore assume a date around 2027, although some rumors suggest a launch in 2026.

OLED also on the iPad Air

Remember that the iPad Air should also evolve towards OLED in the near future, perhaps with the M4 chip. However, before this move to OLED, Apple is expected to offer an interim revision, with new iPad Air models probably still equipped with LCD screens, which could be unveiled as early as next spring with the M3 chip.
