Several days ago, we were talking about the poor sales of the iPhone Air. Something that made Apple have to reduce production, since the stock began to accumulate, and they did not want to have more than what they expected to sell, and that we saw from the first day, being the only product that, despite the hours passing, did not increase its delivery time, giving us to understand that there was enough, or at least more than what Apple calculated.
This has continued over time, and although it is also the only one of the latest releases that has an offer on Amazon and other websites, it is still not enough, and its release is complicated, so the presentation of a second version could not be annual, or even be canceled forever.
The iPhone Air fails and could be canceled
The iPhone Air, introduced in September 2025, did not have the impact that Apple expected. Its sales were so weak that the company decided to postpone its next version, which It was due to arrive in autumn 2026. Although its ultra-thin 5.6 mm design caught attention, that same detail ended up working against it: the battery was smaller and it only had a rear camera. For many, paying the price for a model with fewer features than the (slightly more expensive) iPhone 17 Pro simply didn't make sense.
Production fell rapidly. Foxconn almost completely reduced its assembly lines and Luxshare stopped manufacturing at the end of October, as we already told in that article. Apple bet heavily on a lighter and more stylized phone, but the public did not support it. The majority preferred the traditional models, with a better battery and camera, even if they were a little thicker, something that, currently, is not a problem, because they are also light.
This is not the first time that Apple has stumbled when trying to launch an “alternative” version of its iPhone. It already happened with the iPhone mini and the iPhone Plus, which also failed to convince the market. The Air seemed like an opportunity to balance design and performance, but it ended up falling into the same story.
Now the company would be reorganizing its launch calendar: the iPhone 18 Pro, Pro Max and a folding model would arrive in 2026, while the cheapest models (including the possible new Air) would be launched in 2027. There is talk of improvements in battery, camera and cooling, although nothing is confirmed yet.
In short, the iPhone Air has a beautiful design, but it is not enough if the price is high and the performance is similar to the rest. Apple seems to be looking for a way to solve it, however, except for a good price drop, we believe it will not be enough, and we could even be facing the only one in history.
And you, have you purchased this device? If so, tell us the reasons that led you to do so. Otherwise, the reasons why you didn't buy it. In my case, the price is the main factor, since, for much less, I had a practically identical iPhone 17, and with a better battery, despite the fact that it weighs a little more and is thicker.
