In recent weeks, there has been discussion of the option for Apple to introduce advertising on its Apple TV platform, something that most services, such as Netflix, Prime Video, Disney+, etc., have, and that reduce the cost of the monthly plan, by generating money with them.
However, everything indicates that Apple will continue to offer its service without any type of advertisement, and with the same competitive price as always, and the option of family sharing, which makes it most interesting today, so it could continue to gain many new users.
For now, Apple TV will not include advertising
Apple has no plans, at least for now, to launch an ad-supported version of its Apple TV streaming service. This was confirmed by Eddy Cue, one of the company's senior executives, in a recent interview. He said that The idea of advertising is not completely ruled out, but it is not part of the current plans. According to him, Apple prefers the experience to remain clean and seamless, as long as they can maintain a reasonable price.
Since Apple TV came out in 2019 for $4.99 per month, the price has been rising little by little: first to 6.99 in 2022, then to 9.99 in 2023, and now it costs 12.99 per month (although in Spain we still pay 9.90 euros). Even so, Apple prefers to maintain its image as a “premium” service without advertising, something that differentiates it from competitors such as Netflix or Disney+, which already offer cheaper plans with ads to attract more people.
Another interesting detail is that Apple removed the “+” from the name, going from “Apple TV+” to simply “Apple TV.” It's a small change, but it seeks to simplify the brand and make it more recognizable. Furthermore, as we said before, it still allows you to share the “Family” subscription, which means that you can pay those 9.90 euros per month (or 12.99 dollars) between 6 people, practically playing for less than 2 euros, without advertising and with original series and movies.
In short, while other platforms seek to grow with ad-supported plans, Apple prefers to focus on a uninterrupted, economical and quality experience. That may mean slightly higher prices in the future, but it also guarantees what Apple seeks in all its products and services, in which they do not want the user to have to endure advertisements or limitations that, sometimes, end up causing despair, just to save a couple of euros.
And you, are you one of those who prefers a cheaper plan with ads, or are they so annoying that you would pay anything to not have them? The truth is that it depends a lot on the platform, but they can be tedious, so we support Apple's initiative, and we hope that, for a long time, they continue like this, even if they limit the way of sharing, or raise the price, since they have original productions to match, and we can have it even cheaper with the One plan, so there is no excuse. Leave us a comment with your opinion about it, and what you would do if they finally put ads.
