Samsung has officially confirmed that the Galaxy S26 series will receive AirDrop support via Quick Share in the near future. The confirmation came during a press conference held in Japan, where Choi Won-junSamsung executive, stated that the support “will be provided progressively through software updates”. No specific dates: the classic soon without further details.

The curious thing is that this function had already been detected in previous versions of the software of the Galaxy S26but was not available at the device's launch in early March. Samsung launched, in short, a phone with an announced but disabled feature — a decision that will hardly have gone down well with those who bought the device expecting that functionality from day one.

Quick Share and iPhones: the approach that is becoming more widespread

AirDrop support on Android is not entirely new: Google was the first to implement it natively in the Pixel 10 at the end of 2025allowing these devices to appear directly in the AirDrop menu of iPhones, iPads, and Macs. Shortly after, The function also reached the Pixel 9 series. The only drawback is that you have to have the visibility mode set to “everyone”, which raises some reasonable questions in terms of privacy.

Now it's Samsung's turn, and according to available information, other Galaxy models will also receive the feature after the S26. Oppo, for its part, has already announced that it hopes to implement it this month. Interoperability between Android and iOS, historically tiedadvances — although without a specific date from Samsung, what there is at the moment is a promise, not a reality.

The question is whether this openness between ecosystems is genuinely convenient for the user or simply a strategy by Android manufacturers to reduce the friction that many feel when changing iPhone.
