Today, Tesla is a key automobile brand in the electric car market. Since the start of the year, more than 1.3 million Tesla electric cars have been sold around the world. In recent months, the American manufacturer has placed its Model Y at the top of electric car sales on the Old Continent. Last year, it easily outdistanced its competitors. To establish his dominance, his Model 3 followed him closely.
A few months ago, Tesla announced an increase in sales in the third quarter. Unfortunately, the manufacturer showed less growth compared to the forecasts of some analysts. In this sense, it seems that the month of October failed Tesla. Indeed, the Model Y is no longer the best-selling electric car in Europe. And no, it’s not the Model 3 that dethroned it. So who?
The comeback of the Volkswagen group
In October 2024, Tesla sold “only” 8,795 copies of its Model Y. As a result, Tesla’s Model Y fell and found itself in second place on the podium of the best-selling electric vehicles in Europe. This is a decrease of 18% compared to the same period last year. Worse ? The Model 3 finds itself in eighth place, which represents a drop of 29% compared to last year. Clearly, Tesla is no longer in the minds of motorists.
And no, it was not a Chinese competitor who took first place on the podium. It was the Volkswagen group that overtook Tesla last month. Although it has been going through a significant crisis for several months, it remains the leader in vehicle sales in Europe. Compared to the year, it shows an increase in its vehicle sales, all engines combined, of 18%. Thus, it is the Skoda Enyaq which stands out as the best-selling electric car on the Old Continent in October 2024. In fact, the model sold 9,977 copies last month, which represents an increase of 44% in one year. It’s impressive! Volkswagen is thus surrounding Tesla since its ID.4 is the third best-selling electric vehicle in Europe over the last month.
Tesla’s loss of speed is not that surprising. Financial aid in Europe is more timid. This has resulted in a general slowdown in sales of electric vehicles for the majority of manufacturers. At the same time, there are more and more competitors.
It remains to be seen whether Tesla’s slide continued in November and will persist for the coming months.
