On PC, we have the shortcuts Ctrl + Z to undo the last action and Ctrl + Y to redo it. When you’re writing an email, document, or social media post, these shortcuts are extremely useful because they allow you to return to or redo an action based on your inspiration (instead of delete and then re-enter). And the good news is that the keyboard Gboard from Google, pre-installed on Android smartphones, is about to get a similar functionality.
As our colleagues at 9to5Google note, this feature has been in development since 2023. And now, it is available on the beta version of Gboard.
While waiting for its deployment, you will therefore have to register with beta program of the application, to benefit from this new feature before everyone else. In any case, once you have tested this new feature, it will be difficult to do without it if you write a lot of texts on your smartphone.
A smartphone version of Ctrl + Z
Once you have registered for the Gboard beta program, and after installing the beta version of the application, you should normally have access to the new Google buttons.
- To access the Cancel button, you must open the button menu on the left
- Then, all you have to do is press the new Cancel button to use it

- You can also drag and drop this new button to the top of the keyboard, making it more easily accessible

- As for the Redo button, equivalent to Ctrl + Y, it appears automatically when you use the Undo button

However, it should be remembered that, as the functionality is in beta, it is always possible that it may have bugs. However, it is not yet clear when the Undo and Redo buttons will be offered by Google on the stable version of its Gboard keyboard.
- Google has developed an equivalent of the Windows Ctrl + Z and Ctrl + Y shortcuts for Android’s Gboard keyboard
- The two new buttons allow you to undo or redo the last actions while you write on your smartphone
- But for the moment, you must install the beta version of Gboard to take advantage of this new feature.
