A revolution is occurring in the ecosystem. Indeed, during its annual conference, Qualcomm presented a new chip for smartphones which should significantly improve performance of the next high-end models running Android. The new Snapdragon 8 Elite chip is based on Qualcomm’s Oryon technology, which allowed it to offer PC chips capable of competing with Mac chips. Compared to the Snapdragon 8 gen 3 which equips most high-end 2024 models, the Snapdragon 8 Elite is engraved in 3 nm. And with its clock speed of 4.32 GHz, it has 45% higher Single-Core and Multi-Core performance. Web browsing performance increases by 63%, while the GPU is 40% more efficient.
A rumor about the Galaxy S25
In essence, this is an important development. And the good news is that this new high-performance component should equip Samsung’s next flagships, which will be released in early 2025. In fact, the Korean giant is mentioned in Qualcomm’s press release. But on top of that, Ice Universe, a source that is regularly mentioned by the media, specifies that Samsung’s Galaxy S25 series would indeed use the Snapdragon 8 Elite chip, but not alternatives, such as the Exynos 2500 or the Dimensity 9400.
For the moment, caution remains in order, while waiting for official information on the Galaxy S25 series. But in any case, this is reassuring news for all people waiting for the release of Samsung’s next high-end models. Indeed, it may happen that some Samsung models use the latest Qualcomm chip, while other models in the same series use an alternative developed by Exynos. And on certain series, Samsung can also equip its devices with a different processor depending on the region. But according to Ice Universe (whose comments should be considered with caution), all users of the Galaxy S25 series would therefore be entitled to the Snapdragon 8 Elite chip.

Snapdragon 8 Elite: gain in autonomy and more power for AI
Additionally, the Snapdragon 8 Elite’s improvements aren’t limited to CPU and GPU performance. Qualcomm has also equipped this component with an NPU (an element dedicated to AI) which is 45% more efficient. And this allows the chip to manage “multimodal” digital assistants that can process other formats (like images), in addition to text. And Qualcomm has also made big efforts in energy efficiency. According to it, the energy efficiency of the CPU has been improved by 44%, while that of the GPU has been improved by 40%.
