Today, I am going to tell you about my experience in using a Mac or iPad connected through a monitorsomething that I have been doing for many years, for work, and that until now I did in a very bad way, at least compared to the new one, and that you may also be using.
We all, as a general rule, think about HDMI as main connector to join a computer, console, or other device, with a monitor, however, has many disadvantages, at least with other more modern ways of doing it, like the one we will see now.
Use USB-C to connect Mac to monitor
Although many people know it, there are others who don’t, or like me, have never tried it, and using the USB-C connector on your Mac, along with that on your monitor (if it has one), is ideal, since which has three advantages over HDMI (at least in my case), and which we are going to see now.
- Single cable: One of the advantages with respect to HDMI is that we will not need, first of all, an adapter, to be able to use this port, which current Macs do not have, so we will save the device, in addition to the charging cable to be powering the computer in turn.
- Load at once: As we just mentioned, other advantages of USB-C are that the monitor itself will power the Mac, so we will not need to have the power cable connected to it, thus managing to always have the computer at 100%. battery, and being able to close the cover, if we wish, to work more comfortably alone on the monitor.
- Best frequency: As a general rule, although it will depend on your monitor and Mac, the USB-C connector offers higher image quality than HDMI, so you can achieve, apart from the previous advantages, another one. In my case, I have gone from 30 Hz with HDMI to 60 Hz with USB-C on a 2020 Mac M1, just by changing the cable, without making any extra configuration, since the HDMI and the M1 simply could not go above 30 Hz.
They may not be such big differences, or at least on paper, but once you make the change, you realize that they are all gains, so if you are one of those who, out of laziness, have not bought a cable type C, or you simply didn’t know about any of these benefits, such as improved image quality, we recommend that you get one and try it yourself. In my case, as I said, since I made the change, I couldn’t be happier, and I think the USB-C connector will be the standard (although it already is) both for data transfer, image transfer, power transfer.
And you, how do you connect your computer to a screen? Have you already tried type C? Leave us a comment with your experience and opinion about it, since it can depend on many factors, although in my case, I am very happy this way.
