Foldable titanium and aluminum iPhone
Apple would be preparing a foldable iPhone for 2026 with a mixed titanium and aluminum frameaccording to analyst Jeff Pu. The company is thinking about using titanium, a material that it already introduced in the Pro models, now applying it to both the future foldable and the next iPhone Air in 2026 (if they continue to release it). The combination of both metals seeks to balance strength and lightness, since titanium offers great durability, while aluminum helps reduce weight (and costs).
On other occasions, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo had already commented that Apple You could use titanium along with stainless steelespecially in the hinge area, and even use Liquidmetal components to reinforce the moving parts. The main idea is to achieve a very thin design, since the deployed phone is expected to have about 4.5 millimeters thickthinner even than the current iPhone Air model. To achieve that, you need a material that resists pressure well and does not deform, and titanium fulfills that role perfectly.
The combined use of titanium and aluminum would allow Apple to apply the former in the most critical areas and leave the latter for less demanding areas, thus reducing costs and total weight. It is not clear whether it will be an alloy or a frame with sections differentiated by material, but in any case, a balance between rigidity and portability is expected.
The model would be part of the iPhone 18 family and would be launched in September 2026as usual. It would have a screen size of about 5.5 inches when closed and would reach approximately 7.8 inches when opened.
In short, Apple seems to be focused on creating a foldable device ultra thin, durable and lightwith a premium design that takes advantage of the best of titanium and aluminum, something that further reinforces the main idea that the company wants it to be its best device, and that it is not going to come cheap.
