The definitive editions of the GTA trilogy are FINALLY at the level promised by the developers. After three years of waiting, players can now fully enjoy one of the best video game sagas, thanks to a massive patch that fixes all the issues and delivers graphics worthy of the name on consoles. We hope that the update is also planned for mobile.
Here are 10 of the biggest changes the new patch brings to GTA 3, GTA Vice City, and GTA San Andreas, according to the tweet from Synth Potato.
A trilogy is really at the top
The original Grand Theft Auto trilogy, released on PS1 and PS2, had a huge impact on the industry, pushing the boundaries with each new installment. But the remaster was clearly not up to par. Filled with bugs, it was widely criticized, despite fairly rapid fixes. The difference from the original was not convincing on the next generation consoles. Version 1.112 should put everyone in agreement.
Grove Street Games ousted
The original developers behind the remasters, Grove Street Games, have been completely removed from the studio list in the intro and main menu. Probably because they haven’t worked on this patch. They were responsible for the initial porting, which was more than a failure.
Classic lighting
All three titles in the trilogy have received a “Classic Lighting” setting that completely transforms each game’s visuals to more closely resemble the originals.
The orange haze of Los Santos in San Andreas is back, the desert has also regained its purple sky appearance. Vice City is much more colorful and GTA 3 looks much more raw. We finally respect the intention of the original artists with these games.

The fog
The return of the fog has restored the gigantic feel of the maps in these games.
GTA 3, Vice City and most importantly, San Andreas all now have volumetric fog effects making a return!
This means you can no longer see the entire GTA San Andreas map by simply standing at a high spot or view Mount Chilliad from Grove Street.
Different weathers are actually different
In San Andreas there are a lot of different weathers besides the rain/sun from the original game and they were all completely different depending on what county/city you were in, except in DE where they all looked the same.
This is finally fixed now and each area looks more true to its original appearance!
Improved combat
You can now use shotguns and running weapons in GTA 3 and Vice City, this is a new mechanic that was not available in the original versions or the Definitive Editions, but is an improvement welcome quality of life.
4) Combat Changes
You can now use shotguns and ARs while running around in GTA 3 and Vice City, this is a new mechanic that was not available in the original versions nor definitive editions yet a welcome QoL improvement.

Characters upright
GTA Definitive Edition (DE) had a huge problem with messily twisted bodies, especially CJ who looked like a goblin when riding a bike.
Character modeling has finally been fixed. Although the models themselves haven’t changed much and remain a bit ugly in 2024.
5) Characters are (mostly) FIXED

Parallax interiors are gone
One of the coolest additions to GTA DE was the 3D interiors that could be seen from outside of buildings, while this was great on paper, it was an absolute disaster here.
Most of the time the interior perceived from the outside had nothing to do with what the building actually is and most of the interiors were just copied and pasted everywhere which was horrible.
We are waiting for this new feature on GTA 6 on the other hand.
Crouching is fixed
CJ’s crouch was horrible before the patch, he looked completely out of shape. This is now fixed.
The break in the deleted scenes
A small quality of life change, you can now pause during cut scenes in all three games in the trilogy.
Flying through the clouds
One of the coolest features of the classic GTA San Andreas is that you could fly through the clouds and it’s FINALLY back!
10) Fly through clouds
One of classic GTA San Andreas’s coolest features is that you could fly through clouds and that is now FINALLY back!
It works almost identically to how it did in the original game, the definitive edition of San Andreas genuinely looks good now. pic.twitter.com/T0iUXX5Voa
