American justice has just sentenced two men to prison who defrauded Apple of millions of dollars. A fine exceeding one million dollars is also linked to this prison sentence. Explanations.

A minimal sentence for an immense fraud

The verdict has just come. Two iPhone fraudsters who defrauded Apple of more than 2.5 million dollars have just been sentenced by the courts to 5 years in prison, 57 months for one and 54 months for the other if we want to be precise . In addition, they now have to repay the sum of $1.5 million.

Two men of Chinese origin, aged 34 and tried by a federal jury in Maryland, near Washington, the capital of the United States. Concerning the fraud in question, the two men purchased very realistic copies of iPhones and usurped real iPhone serial numbers covered by the AppleCare+ guarantee.

An effective ploy given that they apparently managed to send more than 6,000 smartphones to Apple which came under the brand’s warranty, resulting in the sending of a real authentic iPhone in exchange. All that remained was for the two men to sell them back on the web.

With a maximum sentence set at 20 years for this type of case, we can say that the two men are getting off rather well. Not to mention the amount of the fine which represents “only” the amount actually earned through the sale of stolen iPhones and not the real loss caused to Apple which would be around $3.8 million.
