Mark Gurman confirmed the hypothesis that a future version of the Magic Mouse with voice control for AI integration “makes sense”, although he assured that he could not corroborate the information. In fact, it simply relies on the words of Korean leaker “eyes1222” who also mentioned the refresh rate of the standard iPhone 17.
Plausible but far from certain
The often well-informed leaker claimed yesterday that Apple had developed a Magic Mouse 3 prototype with a combination of touch, voice and gesture controls. However, the Bloomberg reporter responded on social media, suggesting that while these features align with the company’s AI advances, the rumor appears to stem from a mistranslation of a report he himself shared earlier in December about the Magic Mouse update.
Nonetheless, Gurman reiterated that Apple is prioritizing a more ergonomic design and new gestures in its next Magic Mouse, although he did not confirm voice control. Our colleague adds that the keyboard, the Magic Keyboard, will follow the same trajectory.
Voice control in the new Magic Mouse I wrote about this month makes sense in light of AI — and the fact that Apple is on a decade-plus cycle. From what I’ve heard, big focus is ergonomics and gestures (relocated USB-C too). I’d expect a new keyboard too. https://t.co/FtUcR2Yqdj

If voice control makes its way into a future Magic Mouse 3, it could enable integration with Apple Intelligence, allowing users to summon Siri or perform tasks via voice commands. Gurman noted that while Macs already support similar voice features, Apple could look to future-proof the device for potential use cases five to 10 years from now. Given Apple’s infrequent updates to the Magic Mouse (the most recent adding USB-C connectivity and new colors in 2023), this could be a strategic move.
For the record, earlier this month, Gurman revealed that Apple was planning a “complete redesign” of the Magic Mouse, with significant design changes including moving the charging port to a more convenient position. However, he made no mention of voice control or gesture support at the time.
Gurman and Eyes1222 both indicate that the next-generation Magic Mouse is expected to debut in 2026, potentially alongside the OLED MacBook Pro which is rumored to be due in the same year. But our little finger tells us that the second was inspired by the first for its predictions.
