Like every year, WhatsApp needs to be updated, with improvements and security measures, which may not always be compatible with all phones, especially if they are many years old. That is why, from time to time, we see a new version that causes previous models to no longer be able to install the app.
During this month of October, the new version of WhatsApp will leave out all devices with Android 5.0 or iOS 12. Many of them cannot be updated, so they would not be able to download the app once this happens, leaving us with a practically useless mobile phone, since this is one of the most important applications for everyone.
WhatsApp is no longer compatible on these iPhones
It is likely that there are few users who continue to have one of these iPhone models, however, as a secondary phone, it is possible, so you will have to take it into account, since in a few days you will stop having service, which is what you want. This means that if you want to keep the chats, you must make a backup copy, which you can later restore to a model that is compatible.
As we said, this will affect iOS 12, the version that will no longer be able to support WhatsApp and that limits certain models to this, since they cannot be updated to a higher iOS. Among these are the following:

- iPhone 5s
- iPhone 5c
- iPhone 6
- iPhone 6 Plus
- iPhone SE (first generation)
It is possible that the iPhone 5 was already obsolete, but an iPhone 6 is not that far behind, and due to its price, I know parents who have bought it as their children’s first phone, so they should think about renewing it, at least if you want to use WhatsApp, since it would be one of the essential apps on all mobile phones, and it will not only be the only one to say goodbye with iOS 12, so we will end up with an iPhone to call, use the calculator, and little else.
For now, the rest of the devices can rest assured, and until next year, there will be no more important changes that will leave them out, however, if you have one of the following, if I were you, I would consider changing it, since it won’t take long. a lot to stop being compatible, and it may catch you by surprise, so it is best to think about it now, since it does not have to be a year, and it is possible that there will be another update in March or April that eliminates even more.

The truth is that today they could even be obtained for 30 euros, very functional, so many people could use it as their secondary phone, something that will now be forgotten, and we will have to think about a higher range. In my case, if you don’t want to spend a lot, but you are looking for an iPhone for the next year or so, I would go for the iPhone X, which you can buy for less than 100 euros, and it is one of the best they have released. It is no longer updated, but it will have a few years of life.
