After enormously supporting Donald Trump’s campaign, Elon Musk will finally be rewarded for his efforts. He will in fact co-chair the new Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), an organization located outside the federal government and responsible for reducing state spending by making deep cuts. And in fact, the father of the entrepreneur is worried about this new role.
“He was always thrifty”
In a recent interview with the Saudi state news channel, Al Arabiyathe latter began by emphasizing that his son is perfectly cut out for this mission: “I can’t think of anyone better suited to such a position than Elon. He has always been thrifty. When he was young, he wanted to do things cheaper, better and faster than anyone else”.
But he also expressed his concern that this entry into politics risked distracting him from the management of his companies: “Elon has a huge task ahead. He has a few hundred thousand employees and a lot of very serious things going on in his life, so he has to be available for whatever he starts… He can’t just walk away from things.”.
A very tense father-son relationship
He specifies: “To see him sitting in an office somewhere in Washington, waiting and twiddling his thumbs – no, no. It should be called on an advisory basis”. As for the American civil servants who would be laid off and see their financial security jeopardized, it is actually for their own good:
People whose lives are wasted in jobs with no real productivity could be released into more productive jobs and I think that’s a very good thing.
These comments are surprising, given that relations between Elon Musk and his father are clearly strained. Our colleagues from Futurism thus recall comments made by the billionaire to the magazine Rolling Stone in 2017 calling Errol a “terrible human being”. He also could not have tolerated learning that the latter had impregnated Jana Bezuidenhout, his daughter-in-law whom he had raised since childhood.
