After many years, here it is: one of Spider-Man’s iconic enemies is getting his own feature film in theaters. The antagonist Kraven the Hunter will have taken some time before arriving on the big screen. It was rumored that he would appear in Spider-Man 3 of Sam Raimi then that he would be in Spider-Man: No Way Homeduring the meeting of the three Spider-Men. But it didn’t happen. Fans of the Russian fighter therefore had to be patient.
While the Marvel Cinematic Universe has been developing for many years on Disney’s side, Sony perseveres and tries to compete as best it can… That is to say, with frankly mixed results. In line with Venom, Morbius And Madame Webit’s time for Kraven the Hunter to enter the scene. Poor guy. To put it simply, the film Kraven the Hunter is the nail in Sony’s coffin in the superheroic universe. We didn’t need this new film for that, but hey, now that it’s here… With Kraven the HunterSony is giving us the worst possible goodbyes and we can’t help but be a little relieved.
Kraven the Hunter: an inevitable flop?
Is there a universe in which Kraven the Hunter is a cardboard? I doubt it. In the United States, the press and spectators do not mince their words. During its first weekend of release, the feature film suffered a monumental failure. To get an idea, Kraven the Hunter got off to a worse start than Madame Webwhich had already flopped well when it was released in cinemas.
Spectators don’t really seem open to the idea of a universe dedicated to characters linked to good old Peter Parker, directly or indirectly. But it took Sony a while to catch on to the idea. With Kraven the Hunterthe company is bowing out and we would have liked a “beautiful” exit. At least…
Unfortunately, Sony continues the carnage. At the house of Lemon squeezerwe saw Kraven the Hunter and we confirm it to you: there is nothing to learn from it. The film tells nothing (or almost), and does it poorly. Everything is predictable and nothing is subtle. The characters are not endearing, the writing is deplorable, so much so that the actors Aaron Taylor-Johnson (Kick Ass) and Ariana DeBose (West Side Story) cannot escape unscathed. As for the visual effects, it’s painful to see. Finally, while the music isn’t actually bad, it’s completely forgettable when the lights come back on. Even the fights failed to dazzle us. It would have been nice to be able to hold on to something, anything, but Kraven the Hunter is merciless.
There had to be a way to do something interesting with this antagonist. We would have loved to be surprised when we left the session. But no, nothing helps: Kraven the Hunter confirms that Sony has every interest in dropping the supervillains who revolve around Spider-Man. Too bad… But we know that Sony will make up for it with Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse. Even if for that, we will have to wait another year or two. Ahhhhhhh!
