For a good ten years now, voice messages have played an important role in our daily lives. If in the past these were reserved for our good old telephone answering machines, it is now possible to leave a voice message for the interlocutor, the duration of which sometimes (often) exceeds several minutes. As for messaging applications, we allow you to accelerate the reading speed, that’s already it.
So of course, voice messages allow more authentic, more spontaneous communication than text messages, which are sometimes sources of certain disagreements regarding the “tone” used. But sometimes we are on the move or in a noisy environment, or we receive a long voice message that we simply don’t have time to listen to.
This is why WhatsApp has just deployed its new “Transcription of voice messages“. As its name suggests, this functionality allows us to transcribe voice messages, or convert them into text, in order to allow us to continue our conversation, in (almost) any circumstance.
“Transcriptions are generated on your device so no one else can listen or read your personal messages. Not even WhatsApp!” explains Meta. Over the months, WhatsApp will support new languages.
To activate or deactivate this feature, you will need to have the latest WhatsApp update, then go to Settings > Discussions > Transcribe voice messages. From then on, you can transcribe a voice message by pressing and holding on the message, then selecting “ Transcribe “.
