X receives a new fine in Brazil to lift the suspension

The social network X finds itself once again in the spotlight in Brazil. After being banned from the country in late August for failing to comply with a court injunction, Alexander de Moraes. This fine follows the social network’s alleged attempt to circumvent the ban by restoring its services via Cloudflare infrastructure.

To return to the start of tensions, Alexandre de Moraes of the Supreme Court ordered this summer the blocking of several accounts accused of spreading disinformation during the recent elections. Despite this injunction, X refused to comply with it, which led to its ban throughout Brazilian territory. Elon Musk publicly opposed this decision in several posts, denouncing an attack on freedom of expression and democracy.

This is not the first fine

The conflict between X and the Brazilian authorities has already cost the social network dearly, before this new fine, Faced with the company’s initial refusal to pay this sum, the Brazilian government urgently froze the accounts of Starlink, another company owned by Elon Musk, in order to recover the fine.

However, after several weeks of tension, X finally gave in by agreeing to pay the fines and appoint a legal representative in Brazil, as required by the Supreme Court.
The social network has not yet communicated a return date to Brazil and it is still uncertain whether it will agree to pay this new fine. Yet in a recent statement, X’s official government relations account reaffirmed its commitment to countries’ sovereignty, while emphasizing the importance of Brazilian users’ access to preserving a healthy democracy.
