Windows 11 continues its attempt to cling to the crown of the world’s most used operating system. While this has been the case for all Microsoft operating systems to date, it’s also true that the competition is starting to get tougher than usual for Americans. In this article, we’re going to reveal 10 features that should be coming soon to our Windows 11 operating system.
Many of these new features focus on artificial intelligence or better integration with Apple systems. Looking ahead, these are Microsoft’s plans to keep Windows 11 afloat and not succumb to macOS, Linux, or Chrome OS. We’re starting with the 10 most anticipated features coming soon.
Upcoming additions that will enhance your experience
Paint, now powered by Copilot. Microsoft’s simplest editor will now receive a significant upgrade with the addition of a new button for Windows’ native AI. This new tool will allow us to access options like Cocreator, Generative Erase, and Image Creator. While it’s still the simplest option, it never hurts to have more powerful tools.
Expanded iPhone compatibility. Until now, compatibility with these devices was considered good. But improvements such as being able to view the battery status of the new phone, manage messages, and access photos improve connectivity and synchronization with our Apple device.
Quick Settings Redesign. Microsoft is currently redesigning the app to make it easier to access important settings. This includes options like screen brightness, network service, and volume adjustments.
Improved HDR system. If you have a monitor or TV with HDR settings, this will be of great interest to you. Microsoft plans to create a “switch” to enable or disable the display’s HDR mode. This can be used in content like movies or games. Future updates also aim to improve this option for better viewing.
Energy-saving features. Windows 11 will bring improvements to energy consumption so we can also save on our electricity bills. As an added bonus, the famous battery percentage in the system tray is also back (something that has been missing all this time and has sown discontent among users).
New designs for the Start menu. Among these new designs, we’ll find grid and category view modes. While the former sorts apps into various categories (games, entertainment, etc.), the latter allows us to view items in list mode.
Improvements to Copilot. The American company’s commitment to its own AI is consistent, and the improvements will be effective with Copilot+, which will feature improved user interaction, according to the company itself. It aims to excel in both file management and information search.
New sharing interface. We’ve talked about this before at Softzone. The new feature will allow us to drag any type of file to the top edge of the screen. Here, a series of applications (previously configured by us) will appear, allowing us to drop the file onto its icon and automatically share it with the app.
Improvements to File Explorer. While tabs are intuitive, the truth is that our browser is starting to look a bit outdated in terms of design. This improvement will allow us to choose what to do with external links: open a tab instead of a window so we don’t have a huge amount of windows when working with information.
Recall: AI-powered photographic memory. This AI-based system will automatically take screenshots of the sites we visit so we can easily access content we’ve previously viewed.
