Since the appearance of the first iPhone in 2007, smartphones have continued to evolve at dizzying speed. Ever faster processors, storage capacities that have exploded, exceptional cameras (the iPhone 16 is the best example), a successful implementation of AI (Samsung Galaxy S24), etc.

After more than fifteen years of development, three major advances are emerging for 2025, suggesting the long-awaited achievement of a device without any compromise. Is the perfect smartphone really about to leave the factories next year?

PC-like performance in the palm of your hand

The new Snapdragon 8 Elite processor is one of the spearheads of this evolution. Manufactured by Qualcomm, this mobile chip is a real racing beast : engraved in 3 nm, it is solidly armed and even exceeds the A18 Pro chip fitted to the iPhone 16 Pro on Geekbench 6. A high-performance CPU, an Adreno GPU specially designed for mobile games and a Hexagon NPU designed for the most demanding artificial intelligence tasks, the 8 Elite will shake up the market.

This chip clearly reaches performance worthy of some desktop computers and should equip high-end Android smartphones from next year. The first to benefit from it will certainly be the Samsung Galaxy S25, which should be released at the start of the year, in January.

The ultimate challenge of autonomy

A possible sperfect smartphone equipped with the best mobile chip is not worth much if it is unable to last a day without being recharged. Well, precisely, this major obstacle could fall in 2025. The Ouga group, a collaboration between Oppo and OnePlus, developed a 7,000 mAh accumulator with dimensions equivalent to the batteries of the iPhone 16 Pro Max and the future Galaxy S25 Ultra.

The secret? The replacement of the graphite anode with a new silicon-based material, capable of storing more lithium ions. This battery, whose guaranteed minimum capacity reaches 6,850 mAh at 4.53 V, could finally free us from daily charging. For comparison, the battery of the iPhone 16 Pro Max peaks at “only” 4,685 mAh, an already phenomenal capacity if we take into account the size of the device.

Mobile photography has also reached a decisive milestone in 2024 with the integration of telephoto lenses in very compact formats. Previously reserved for SLR cameras, this type of lens now equips high-end iPhone Pros, Samsung Galaxy or Google Pixels.

These three pillars – power, autonomy and photographic performance – thus converge towards the realization of an almost flawless smartphone. Even if the concept of perfect smartphone remains entirely subjective and varies according to individual needs, this perspective has never been so tangible.

  • High-end smartphones of 2025 will feature processors worthy of real PCs.
  • A new high-capacity battery has been developed by Ouga; this reaches 7,000 mAh
  • Compact telephoto lenses are finally integrating smartphones, offering photo quality equivalent to professional devices.
