In January 2022, it was only a promise from Emmanuel Macron, it has now come true. France therefore has a 17Cybera free platform available 7 days a week, 24 hours a day to respond to emergencies regarding cyberattacks and cybercrime. Here’s what you need to know about this device.

Who is 17Cyber aimed at?

This initiative aims to help victims of malicious acts online (viruses, phishing, bank scams, ransomware, etc.). They can therefore just as easily be individuals, businesses, communities, or associations.

How does it work?

Once on the dedicated platform, the idea is to identify the problem encountered. Visitors will then receive personalized advice and will potentially be put in contact with the police or a private service provider, depending on the case, detail our colleagues at BFM Tech.

If a report is necessary, the victim will be referred to other platforms. This is how it is THESEUS for filing complaints. The ambition is indeed there on the side of the Ministry of Daily Security which is deploying a “17Cyber module” which can be integrated directly into websites. The idea is “to complete the 17Cyber course and benefit from personalized help”. To learn more about this, it’s over here.

Why launch 17Cyber?

This initiative clearly owes nothing to chance. According to a recent survey, 9 out of 10 French people have already been confronted with a situation of computer malware. Cybermalveillance.gouv also reminds “that between 2016 and 2023, “digital” attacks on property (fraud, online scams, etc.) increased by 8% on average per year, while “digital” attacks on the person (harassment, insults, threats, discrimination) have increased by 9% on average each year”.

At the same time, local authorities are facing an increase in ransomware attacks which wreak havoc and sometimes hamper the operation of these public services essential to citizens. We will therefore have to see how it is used, but the 17Cyber could represent a real breath of fresh air in terms of cybersecurity in France.

What to remember:

  • Almost three years after its presentation, the 17Cyber is launched in France
  • It is a platform reachable 7 days a week and 24 hours a day
  • It makes it possible to respond to emergencies in terms of cyberattacks and cyberdelinquency
  • This is a welcome initiative as these threats are increasingly present
