To maintain an optimal user experience and improve the features that are the strengths of AirPods, Apple regularly releases new firmware for its wireless headphones and high-end headphones. Last night, the company deployed new firmware on its servers.
New update for AirPods
Good news, Apple has decided to improve the experience of older generations of AirPods. Starting today, AirPods 2 and 3, AirPods Pro 1 and AirPods Max (Lightning version) are receiving an update that they will install automatically. The firmware goes from code 6A326 to code 6F21, information that you can see in the settings of your iPhone when your pair of AirPods is connected.
Apple does not specify the new features or improvements that are applied in this new update, however, as the firmware concerns older generations of AirPods, we imagine that there is no new feature, but rather improvements in stability the Bluetooth connection with the devices or even in the audio quality.
How to update your AirPods Pro?
Apple still doesn’t offer a guide to installing an update on AirPods, but the firmware is retrieved over Bluetooth when AirPods are connected to an iOS device. Placing the AirPods in their case (or next to it), connecting them to a power source, and then pairing them with an iOS device or Mac should force the update.
You can check the firmware on your AirPods by following these steps on an iPhone:
- Connect your AirPods to your iOS device.
- Open the Settings app.
- Tap General.
- Tap About.
- Tap AirPods.
- Look at the value next to “Firmware Version”.
