As a consumer, we see the Apple Vision Pro as a feat for entertainment, gaming and productivity, however, the Apple Vision Pro also has major benefits for training! The space computer will soon have its own simulation application to teach young pilots how to fly planes.
An immersion like never before for learning to pilot
Since its launch, the Apple Vision Pro has established itself in fields as varied as medicine and design, but a new sector seems ready to adopt it: aviation. Indeed, the company CAE (Canadian Aviation Electronics), specialized in pilot training, is in the process of developing an application that could revolutionize the learning of in-flight controls.
The application, unveiled during NBAA-BACE (National Business Aviation Association’s Business Aviation Convention & Exhibition) in Las Vegas, is designed to offer pilots total immersion in a virtual cockpit. Thanks to Apple Vision Pro, future pilots will have the opportunity to interact with the controls of an aircraft in a simulated environment with impressive realism thanks to the screen resolution. This allows you not only to visualize the different commands, but also to manipulate them, while learning the essential procedures.
Three learning modes adapted to each need
This new application offers three distinct modes to adapt to different mastery levels and user needs:
- Explore mode : ideal for familiarizing yourself with the controls. This mode allows you to freely manipulate the flight instruments, while providing detailed descriptions of each function.
- Assisted mode : a step-by-step guide supports the user in learning specific procedures, such as those related to takeoff, landing or emergency maneuvers.
- Free mode : here the pilot can simulate any interaction with the controls, allowing flight scenarios to be repeated without restriction.
A complement to traditional training
This application is not intended to replace current training or flight hours required for certification, but it aims to add an additional tool for pilots in training. Thanks to this at-home simulator, they will be able to deepen their learning, become familiar with the cockpits and improve their gesture memory for key functions. This approach makes it easier to repeat crucial procedures without the pressure of a real-world environment.
Currently being tested on the Bombardier Global 7500 program, the application is planned for launch in spring 2025 if development goes well. For Apple, this is good news, because the Apple Vision Pro once again finds its place in the world of training. We imagine that if the CAE company’s application is a success, thousands of flight schools around the world will invest in Vision Pros to take advantage of the app.
