This is something new that we didn’t really expect, Amazon has just announced its first Kindle with a color screen. Until today, the company had always considered that a product which is mainly used for reading books did not need colors, but the team’s vision seems to have changed!
There is now an Amazon Kindle with a color screen
Amazon unveiled the Kindle Colorsoft last night, a new straightener which marks a first in history: the arrival of a color screen. Since its creation, the Kindle has always had a black and white screen, suitable for reading enthusiasts. This technological choice made it possible to reduce manufacturing costs while providing a simple, efficient and authentic reading experience. However, with the Kindle Colorsoft, Amazon is taking a step forward by integrating color into its famous reading device.
The Kindle Colorsoft features a 7-inch screen with high contrast and colors that faithfully reproduce the appearance of paper. This offers a new visual experience, particularly useful when reading comics, magazines or illustrated books. Despite this progress, Amazon has no ambition to transform its e-reader into a tablet. The Colorsoft Kindle remains true to its primary purpose: to offer a simplified and comfortable way to read.
E Ink technology and performance
To offer colors without loss of quality or increase in latency, Amazon has relied on E Ink technology, combined with LED pixels and a new oxide background. This technology helps preserve image clarity and resolution, guaranteeing pleasant reading in both black and white (300 ppi) and color (150 ppi).
Autonomy that does not disappoint
If the Kindle Colorsoft requires a fairly long charging time (2.5 hours for a full charge via its 9 W USB-C port), its autonomy more than compensates for this detail. In offline mode, the device can last up to 8 weeks, enough to go on vacation with peace of mind. And for those who like to read near water, no worries: the Kindle Colorsoft is IPX8 certified, which makes it resistant to splashing water, however you should avoid submerging it underwater.
Availability and price
The Kindle Colorsoft will be delivered in France from October 30, 2024. For Amazon Prime subscribers, one business day delivery is included. In terms of price, the Kindle Colorsoft will be offered at €299.99. A price that reflects the new features while remaining competitive with alternatives on the market.
