MacPaw has just released a major new version of its CleanMyMac cleaning and optimization utility. This update brings a redesigned design and new features to keep your Mac in top shape.
A simplified and more intuitive interface
The first change that jumps out at you is the redesign of the interface. No more “X” suffix, CleanMyMac adopts a clean and modern look. The sidebar has been greatly simplified, now having only six main modules:

This clearer organization makes it easier to get started, even for beginners. Each module brings together targeted tools with less technical explanations than before.
Thorough tracking of bulky files
The “My unnecessary files” functionality has been particularly improved. It deeply scans your Mac for large, old files, duplicates, and even near-identical images. The analysis may take some time depending on storage capacity, but it is worth the effort. CleanMyMac is extremely effective at identifying files to delete safely.
CleanMyMac now includes an icon in the menu bar that gives a quick overview of your Mac’s health. In one click, you have access to a grid of indicators on the state of the different components. Useful for keeping an eye on things to watch out for.
A complete toolbox
The other CleanMyMac modules bring together a wide range of maintenance tools. With Smart Care, optimize your Mac in just a few clicks by deleting the unnecessary. The Cleanup module goes even further by removing caches and other unnecessary files that waste disk space.
On the security side, Protection detects malware while Performance helps you free up RAM. Finally, the Applications module makes it easy to completely uninstall apps, as well as update them.
After a week of use, I am won over by this new version of CleanMyMac. Certainly, the “My useless files” analysis is a little long, but devilishly effective for cleaning up. The other tools perfectly fulfill their role in maintaining your Mac regularly, all with disconcerting simplicity.
