Apple would have planned a little surprise to celebrate the 10th anniversary of its connected watch, released in 2015. In beta 2 of iOS 18.2, there is mention of a “ten year celebration” with references to a challenge of activity, which leaves little doubt about the intentions of the American firm.
An upcoming birthday
The most loyal among you probably remember the presentation of the Apple Watch in September 2014, before its official launch much later, in April 2015. This double date continued to raise questions as to whether whether the Apple Watch’s 10th anniversary will be in 2024 or 2025.
Apple celebrated the 10th anniversary of the iPhone with the launch of the iPhone X in 2017, and this year the company marked the 10th anniversary of Apple Pay. Apple considers 10 years to be milestones, so we can expect something for the Apple Watch.
In 2023, we exclusively explained that Apple was planning a complete redesign of the Apple Watch for its 10th anniversary, with a magnetic strap attachment system and a slimmer design. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman corroborated our report, but in September 2024, the Apple Watch received a rather minor update, despite larger screens and a thinner chassis. The overall design was very similar, and there was no talk of an “Apple Watch X” as advertised. It is therefore possible that Apple has kept the anniversary model for 2025, with the hypertension and blood sugar sensors mentioned on numerous occasions. The ten-year activity die, spotted by MacRumorsis in any case a sign that the company did not consider the Apple Watch Series 10 to be sufficiently striking.
While waiting to learn more, remember that 2025 will also mark the 10th anniversary of the Apple Music streaming service, released in June 2015. Users can expect surprises.
