Apple is preparing its partners for the transition to OLED screen technology on its MacBook Pro range. Indeed, the American manufacturer is pushing its screen subcontractors to increase their production capacities for OLED screens suitable for laptops, according to a recent press release from the Taiwanese research firm TrendForce.
A redesign in 2026 or 2027
If the rumor has been circulating for months, with a slightly delayed schedule, here is undoubtedly the first concrete proof of Apple’s desire to launch MacBook Pro models equipped with OLED panels. The objective is to launch the new computers around the end of 2026, beginning of 2027.
With Apple planning to introduce AMOLED displays in its MacBook series between 2026 and 2027, the company has already started encouraging display makers to increase their investments. They are currently upgrading AMOLED RBG production lines from 6th generation to 8.6 or 8.7 generation configurations to meet anticipated demand.
LG and Samsung are expected to be the main suppliers of these OLED screens, as is already the case for the iPhone and iPad Pro. OLED technology offers several advantages over existing mini-LED displays, such as improved brightness, higher contrast, deeper blacks and better power efficiency, which could lead to longer battery life and a slimmer device profile. The iPad Pro M4 is the perfect example.
While waiting for this major development, probably accompanied by a revised design, customers can expect that the 2025 models will be satisfied with a new M5 chip and Wi-Fi 7. In short, if you already have a MacBook Pro Mx, it is better to wait another two or three years before changing, see our comparison between MacBook Pro M1, M2, M3 and M4.
