A few weeks ago we received the news that Apple will use Gemini for its Siri assistant, being able to collect information from this Google Artificial Intelligence, which is much more advanced than what Apple would have achieved with its own.
However, many feared that this could represent a breach in the security of the data they collect, since we all know that Apple takes it very seriously, but that Google also had it, it was not funny. Apparently this will not happen, and Apple has confirmed that the information will go directly to its private cloud.
Apple will not transfer data to Google
Apple has finally clarified what it plans to do with Siri and the most powerful artificial intelligence, and the answer is very much in its style: yes, it is going to use Google technology, but in its own way. Specifically, Siri is going to rely on Gemini, which is one of the most advanced AI models right now, but without sending your data to Google or mixing it with anything external.
The key to all this is something that Apple calls “Private Cloud Compute”. Basically, when Siri needs to think harder to respond to you, it will do so either on your own device or on Apple servers designed for that. These are not normal servers, and Apple is very adamant that they do not store your information or use it to train models.
This is important because for years Siri lagged behind other assistants. While ChatGPT, Gemini or Copilot seemed to understand questions better and give more useful answers, Siri was still stuck on basic things. With this move, Apple indirectly recognizes that it needed help, but without giving up its obsession with privacy.
The idea is that Siri continues to be “your” assistant. Your messages, contacts, reminders or notes do not leave your environment. Gemini brings the ability to better understand what you say and respond with more context, but it doesn't keep the information. It's like using a very powerful engine, but inside Apple's garage.
Apple has also not started selling smoke with exact dates or exaggerated promises. What is known is that this new Siri will arrive with a large system update this year. It will not be a change from one day to the next, but it will be an important step so that Siri stops feeling limited. Everything pointed to iOS 26.4, but it seems that there is nothing to confirm that this is the caseto.
Deep down, all this fits quite well with how Apple usually moves. It was not the first to launch itself into generative AI, but now that it is getting serious about it, it does so by trying to control every part of the process. Use external technology when it suits you, but without relinquishing control or compromising privacy.
In short: Siri is going to be smarter thanks to Gemini, but without becoming a Google product or sharing your data. And you, what do you think of all this?
