Apple already has a new idea to establish itself in the mixed reality market. While it already markets the Vision Pro, the firm could also offer augmented reality glasses which, instead of operating autonomously, would use the computing power of the iPhone. This idea had already been mentioned by Mark Gurman, journalist at Bloomberg and one of the best informed sources about future Apple products. And in its latest newsletter, it indicates that from now on, this option would be seriously considered by the Cupertino company.
Why could Apple Glasses be a hit?
Indeed, augmented reality glasses connected to the iPhone would have many advantages. First of all, it would be a lighter and more compact form factor than the Vision Pro. In addition, Apple would no longer need to integrate a processor into these glasses, since they would rely on the iPhone’s processor to provide an augmented reality experience.
For the moment, caution remains in order, since this information comes from an unofficial source. But if Apple does indeed launch augmented reality glasses connected to the iPhone, it is possible that this product will have similarities with the Xreal glasses. This Chinese company is already influential in the mixed reality market. And its specialty is augmented reality glasses which serve as a screen when connected to a smartphone or a PC. Thanks to this system, Xreal is able to offer products that do not cost too much, but which allow you to enjoy a mixed reality experience. Additionally, Xreal glasses are compact enough to be used on the go.
The affordable version of the Vision Pro would be postponed
Recently, analyst Ming Chi Kuo, for his part, indicated that Apple would have postponed the production of the affordable version of the Vision Pro headset. Here too, caution remains in order. But it is entirely possible that the firm has decided to put this project on hold, in order to focus on a completely different product, such as augmented reality glasses.
- According to Mark Gurman, Apple is seriously considering developing glasses that connect to the iPhone to provide an augmented reality experience
- Caution remains in order, but such a product could be more affordable than the Vision Pro (because it would not need a processor)
- The glasses would also be more compact and lighter
