live-lightning ipa ipad iphoneApple is moving up a gear by putting a Thunderbolt 5 Pro cable on sale. A latest generation cable that delivers the greatest possible charge for express data transfer between two devices. A USB-C to USB-C cable.

Thunderbolt 5: even more power

In addition to the release of the M4 Macs, Apple unveils its Thunderbolt 5 Pro USB-C cable with a length of one meter. Sold at the price of €79it features a black braided design which allows it to roll up without getting tangled, but also to last over time.

Apple’s Thunderbolt 5 cable supports data transfer up to 120 Gbps. It obviously supports all the maximum data loads of Thunderbolt 3/4, USB 3/4 and DisplayPort 2.1 video output. It has a power supply of up to 240 W.

Ideal for connecting your new Mac mini M4 to a Studio Display, a Pro Display XDR or any other type of Thunderbolt compatible screen. The same goes for external drives. It is also possible to connect your iPhone or iPad (USB-C) to your Mac.

Thunderbolt 5 is 3x faster than Thunderbolt 4. It offers optimal support for 8K displays with a refresh rate of up to 540 Hz. Please note, only the Mac mini M4 Pro is Thunderbolt 5 compatible. The classic M4 is equipped with three Thunderbolt 4 ports, so the cable will be “useless”. Same for the iMac M4 which remains on Thunderbolt 4.

Other more affordable alternatives exist on Amazon from third-party resellers. Here are some Thunderbolt 5 cable deals at half the price compared to Apple’s.
