When purchasing an iPhone, Mac, or other Apple device, we have to create an ID associated with iCloudwe have no other choice, and although the EU is trying to fight against this, for now if you want to make a copy of your data, and you do not have enough storage, you will have to pay for extra space in this service.
However, on a day-to-day basis, is it worth paying up to 60 euros a month to have a copy of our photos, files, or games saved on the iPhone? There are alternatives if you need this kind of space, and, for my part, I think that Apple is going a bit overboard with the prices, which, although they are not raising them in recent years, are not giving us more than 5 GB.
Is it advisable to pay for iCloud?
Being given 5 GB is something to be appreciated, however, when you are forced to use this service to, for example, recover your photos or contacts, it is a bit abusive, since yes, we can use other services like Google Photos (who gives us 15 GB instead of just 5 GB), but the convenience and synchronization with Apple only works well with iCloud.
In case of need some more spaceand an option that most users have, will be to acquire the 50 GB, for a cost of 0.99 euros per month, which already gives us more freedom. However, is it profitable to continue increasing?
There are rates of up to 60 euros per month, which would give us an expense of 720 euros per yearor in other words, it’s crazy. Setting up our own iCloud, with a NAS and a 12 TB disk, we could get it for less than what a year of iCloud would cost us, and yet we would have it forever, with the option, in turn, to share it with more people, which is very good in terms of Apple options, but analyzing the prices, it doesn’t make much sense, since 2 TB costs 10 euros per month, and 12 TB, 60 euros, that is, there would be no savings by choosing more space.
Thanks to the new connector on the iPhone 15 and later, you can attach an external hard drive It is also another option that allows us to even record directly on it, eliminating the need to pay more for an iPhone with greater capacity, or having to do it later with iCloud storage.
In short, there are many alternatives, and although it is very convenient to sign up for a plan with a lot of space, it is not at all profitable, and before you know it, you will have spent a lot of money on it. We only recommend the 50 GB for 0.99 euros, and more than anything out of necessity, since the 5 GB that Apple gives away, and which has not been increased for years, is not enough.
Are you one of those who has a paid iCloud plan, or are you happy with 5 GB, or failing that, 50 GB? Leave us a comment with this and why you think it is worth paying for it instead of using a service or an external way to do it in a much more economical way.
