As usual, Apple has stopped signing the penultimate software version iOS 18.0, preventing iPhone users from downgrading to this update. This Apple technique is well known, it forces users to stay on the latest software version which is considered to be more beneficial and secure for them.

Why is Apple blocking downgrade?

Apple regularly stops signing older versions of iOS to prevent users from downgrading to less secure versions of the software. This is an action commonly called “downgrade” in English which allows you to return to a previous state in the event of instability, incompatibility or battery problem for example.

Apple typically blocks older versions to ensure customers have installed the latest security patches. But it also does it to block the jailbreak.

Apple stops signing iOS 18.0, going back impossible

iOS 18.0.1 is currently the latest public release available. Then, you will have to upgrade to iOS 18.1 which will bring new features and several important security fixes.

The upcoming version

At the moment, the iOS 18.1 cycle has not yet started, Apple has released several betas aimed at testing the new features of the update, but this will probably take another week or two. For now, it is not known if before iOS 18.1 another update will be released, it is possible that Apple will release an update like iOS 18.0.2 which will focus on bug fixes.
