The upcoming iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max are expected to continue using a titanium chassis, similar to the current Pro models, according to Weibo leaker “Instant Digital”. This statement contradicts the previous report suggesting that Apple could return to aluminum for its 2025 flagship models.

A contradictory rumor

Contrary to what was suggested by Wayne Ma of The Information, who indicated that the iPhone 17 Pro would have an aluminum frame, Instant Digital firmly believes that Apple will stick with titanium.

The leaker argued on Weibo:

Of course, the iPhone 17 Pro will still use titanium. Why would anyone believe they would switch to aluminum? Think about it, it’s just not possible.

He highlighted Apple’s history of highlighting premium materials used in the Pro series, such as “surgical-grade stainless steel” and “grade 5 titanium,” as key marketing points. We completely agree.

However, last week’s report discussed a significant design change at the supply chain level, including an aluminum top back with a “rectangular aluminum camera bump”, while retaining glass on the bottom for compatibility with wireless charging. This proposed change would align with Apple’s past decisions to introduce and then remove features, such as 3D Touch technology introduced in 2015 with the iPhone 6s and discontinued in 2019 with the iPhone 11.

Instant Digital has a mixed history on Apple leaks, but got several important details right, including the introduction of the yellow iPhone 14, the iPhone 15’s frosted back glass, and the display option nano-texture for the iPad Pro.

In addition to the material used, the iPhone 17 range would offer new screen sizes, an ultra-thin model called iPhone 17 Air and 120 Hz (ProMotion) screens on all models.
