If you have updated your iPhone to iOS 18 and you are a active user on InstagramYou may be thinking that the change was bad, and that the battery lasted longer in the previous version, however, it is not Apple’s fault, but rather the Instagram application itself, which, since the last update, consumes even more battery.
And this app has always been quite bad at managing autonomyalthough it is also understandable with the amount of data download it has, especially if we are downloading and downloading indefinitely, however, other similar ones such as TikTok, YouTube or X do not consume even half, and it is worrying.
Why Instagram consumes so much battery
Whether you are a very active user of this social network or not, the easiest way to check your consumption is to go to Settings – Battery. There you can see a list with the apps that have consumed the most and the time they were used. You just have to follow a rule of three, as we say, whether you use it a lot or a little, to know if it really consumes more than it should.
In my case, it has consumed 20% being 1 hour and 10 minutes the use that I have given it, however, others like WhatsApp have only done so by 3% in 40 minutes of use, therefore, we would be talking about that in the same time, the consumption would be around 5%, while Instagram with that hour and ten minutes, would have consumed 4 times more.
It could be a one-off thing, however, analyzing my friends’ iPhone, as well as performing several tests, I have been able to see how it always follows the rule, and compared to X, for example, it more than doubles its consumption.
Therefore, it means that Instagram is very poorly optimized on iOS 18and whatever the case, since it is likely that they will not be able to achieve a much lower consumption, you have to take this data into account, and if you are away from home, and you think you need to save battery, you already know one of the applications that you should not open.
This applies to both data and Wi-Fi, as their consumption is similar, and will not depend exclusively on this, although if we do it with data we will still be consuming more battery, to the point that, at least in my case, after a while, the iPhone is very hot if we remove the case, an indication that it is consuming a lot of resources, and hence the autonomy is clearly reduced.
And you, Have you noticed high battery consumption with the iOS 18 version?Do you use Instagram a lot? Take a look at the battery consumption in the settings and leave us a comment indicating which app is, proportionally, lowering the battery life of your iPhone the most, as well as the model, so we can see if it is something so common in all of them. For my part, I use an iPhone 13 Pro, although I have tested it on the 14 and 15 with a similar result. Will it be the same on the new 16?
