With the release of iOS 18.2, Apple introduces support for Live Activities in Safari, allowing users to monitor download progress directly on the iPhone lock screen. This feature also appears in the Dynamic Island of the iPhone 14 Pro and more recent like the iPhone 15 and the iPhone 16. Enough to have an eye on the progress of large files without staying in the browser.

An evolution of the user experience

If the addition of Live Activities in Safari seems like a minor development, it is part of a broader set of usability improvements dear to Apple. The update, currently in beta, should be available to all users in December, as the company confirmed last week when it released the M4 Macs and, above all, Apple Intelligence.

In addition to download tracking, iOS 18.2 introduces other notable improvements, including new generative AI features, including;

  • Genmoji: personalized animated emojis that adapt to the user’s preferences and emotions.
  • Image Playground: An advanced tool for editing and customizing images using AI-assisted effects.
  • ChatGPT Integration for Siri: Improved AI responses, allowing Siri to provide more nuanced responses and engage in detailed conversations.

If the new Apple Intelligence features of iOS 18.2 are reserved for Americans (France will be served in April 2025), the version also includes RCS changes at Free and Bouygues, the volume slider on the locked screen, a page for controlling default apps and more.
