This implementation promises to revolutionize the way we interact with our Apple devices, taking productivity to the next level.
ChatGPT news in December
Last month, OpenAI introduced ChatGPT’s ability to read on-screen content in select Mac apps. Now, the tool takes it a step further by integrating directly with the native Notes app, giving users a more convenient way to manage their notes and tasks.
Additionally, compatibility is not limited to Notes, as other popular productivity apps like Notion and Quipalong with development environments like BBEdit, Android Studio, and various JetBrains tools, are also on the list. This makes ChatGPT an even more powerful tool, ideal for both more casual users and advanced developers.
The update includes support for additional integrated development environments (IDEs), such as VSCode forks (VSCodium, Cursor, and WindSurf) and terminal applications such as Prompt and Warp. Thanks to this integration, ChatGPT can analyze code from multiple applications at the same time, offering suggestions without the need for manual copy and paste, so those who use this feature will do it more easily.
OpenAI ensures that users have full control over which applications ChatGPT can access. All interactions follow the same privacy protocols than regular conversations in the app. This advanced feature, however, is reserved for paying subscribers, including the ChatGPT Plus, Pro, Team, Enterprise and Edu plans.
How to start using ChatGPT with Notes and other apps
Setting up this new feature is simple. Follow these steps to get started:
- Enable “Work with Apps”: Go to ChatGPT settings on macOS and turn on the feature.
- Manage permissions: In the “Manage Apps” section, select the apps you want to integrate with ChatGPT.
- Use the ChatGPT Bar: Once set up, open a compatible app (like Apple Notes), press Option + Shift + 1, and start interacting.
If this option doesn’t appear yet, don’t worry, it will soon appear.
The integration also includes a advanced voice modewhich allows completely hands-free interaction. This mode is especially useful for tasks that require speed, such as obtaining recommendations or making changes to on-screen content.
During the presentation of this update, OpenAI showed how ChatGPT can be a practical tool in real scenarios. Using Apple Notes, the assistant helped plan a Christmas party, suggesting songs, ideas for the event and even imitating Santa’s voice to add a fun touch to the experience.
The ChatGPT app for macOS is available for download from the OpenAI website. If you are already a paying subscriber, don’t wait any longer to try this integration with Apple Notes and other apps. And if you haven’t subscribed yet, perhaps it’s time to consider the benefits this tool can offer you.
