DAZN is launching a new offensive to conquer the hearts of football fans in France. After having suffered numerous criticisms over its prices considered too high, the sports streaming platform is trying to seduce football fans with an attractive offer: 7 days of free trial to discover its catalog of premium content, including the coveted League 1. This offer sounds like the final attempt to attract the still very reluctant public.
One week to discover Ligue 1 free of charge
Starting Monday, September 30, new users can register on DAZN and enjoy a completely free 7-day trial period. A boon for football fans who will be able to follow the 8 Ligue 1 matches broadcast by the platform during the next day, including tempting posters like OM-Angers, Rennes-Monaco or even the Nice-PSG clash.
But the offer doesn’t stop there. In addition to Ligue 1, subscribers will have access to a wide range of sporting competitions, from Betclic Élite (basketball) to combat sports such as boxing and MMA. Enough to satisfy all the appetites of sports fans, all without commitment and with the possibility of canceling at any time during the trial period.
An attempt to attract new subscribers
Since its arrival on the French market as the majority broadcaster of Ligue 1, DAZN has been strongly criticized for its prices considered too high (€39.99/month without commitment, €29.99/month with commitment). A price list which has pushed many fans to turn to illegal streaming solutions such as IPTV, causing the subscriptions hoped for by the platform to drop.
By launching this free trial period, DAZN hopes to convince football fans of the quality of its offer and encourage them to subsequently take out a subscription. A strategy that echoes the recent promotion offered by the service, which temporarily increased its prices to €19.99/month.
A risky bet for profitability?
If this new seduction operation can allow DAZN to attract new users, the question of profitability arises. The company’s CEO announced this summer an ambitious target of 1.5 million subscribers for the first six months. A figure that seems difficult to achieve without lasting adjustment to the price scale.
Because once the trial week is over, users will have to choose between subscribing to full prices or canceling. And without additional commercial gesture, it is unlikely that testers will massively take out the credit card. DAZN will therefore have to find the right balance between subscriber acquisition and long-term profitability.
If you do not want to pay and you are a Free subscriber, the operator allows you to watch the best moments of Ligue 1 almost live and for free. This is a legal alternative at a fair price.
