With the latest beta of macOS 15.1 and iOS 18.1, Apple has enabled drag and drop, a highly anticipated feature of iPhone Mirroring, called “iPhone Mirroring” in our country. Once both devices are updated, it is finally possible to move files from an iPhone to a Mac (or vice versa) with a simple mouse gesture. The “drag & drop” that makes life easier.
A long-awaited feature
As explained after the presentation at WWDC 24, iPhone mirroring is really a great idea. “Mirroring” allows you to control an iPhone via a Mac, with all its features. This goes much further than AirPlay mirroring that has existed for years because you can control everything, from the Mac trackpad and / or mouse, even notifications.
With the update, “Mirroring” makes it easier to move files between devices, as it works even when the iPhone is locked and charging. To use this feature, update to the fifth beta of macOS 15.1 and iOS 18.1, then launch the “Mirror iPhone” app. Check out our article to enable it in France.
From there, you can drag a file, like a photo, from your Mac to the Photos app on your iPhone. To transfer a PDF or other document, just open the Files app, then drag the PDF from the Mac Finder to your iPhone. Dragging a file from your iPhone to your Mac works the same way: just drag it to where you want it.
Launch date
The new iPhone Mirroring feature is currently available in developer beta, and public beta testers should be able to try it out later this week. iOS 18.1 and macOS Sequoia 15.1 are expected to be released in final form in October.
