Since its creation, Free Mobile has always focused on mobile plans without commitment, the operator offers a plan at 2€, a Free series which changes prices regularly throughout the year as well as a Free plan at 19.99 €. For the first time, Free will compete with the prepaid offers that already exist on the market, the objective will be to offer something innovative and obviously: inexpensive!
Free Mobile enters the prepaid offers market
During the event dedicated to Free communities on October 18, the operator created a surprise by confirming its imminent entry into the prepaid card market. Until now, Free Mobile had stood out by only offering non-commitment plans, which allowed it to quickly attract many subscribers from its launch in 2012. With this upcoming entry into the prepaid offers market, Free Mobile will reach even more people and increase its turnover.
In France, the prepaid card market is still far from negligible, with around 6.9 million cards in circulation, there is a lot, really a lot of demand. While packages have gained the upper hand in recent years, prepaid offers maintain a solid base of users, attracted by the flexibility they offer. Consumers are looking to better control their spending without being tied to a long-term subscription or an operator, a model that Free now seems ready to exploit.
Objective: compete with Orange and SFR who have been shining in this market for too long
Free Mobile clearly aims to establish itself quickly in this sector, the operator aims to conquer market share against Orange and SFR, the two current leaders in the prepaid card market in France. The latter have maintained their dominant position while Bouygues Telecom, for its part, has largely abandoned this type of offer in recent years, leaving a space that Free Mobile could well exploit.
A new step in Free Mobile’s strategy
Since its arrival on the market in 2012, Free Mobile has profoundly changed the telecoms sector with its low-cost, no-commitment plans. This positioning allowed it to attract millions of subscribers, frustrated by the traditional practices of historic operators. By launching into prepaid offers, Free Mobile hopes to attract a new audience, while continuing to offer competitive rates.
Free Mobile has not yet communicated the specific details of its future prepaid offers, but it is a safe bet that the operator will once again rely on aggressive prices and great transparency to attract new customers.
