Competition between Google and OpenAI is increasingly fierce in the field of artificial intelligence. While the creator of ChatGPT recently launched its Sora video generator, Google has just presented Veo 2. It is an improved version of the Veo video generator, which the firm announced in the month of may.

“Veo 2 creates incredible quality videos in a wide range of topics and styles. In direct comparisons by human evaluators, Veo 2 achieved state-of-the-art results against leading models”we read in the Google press release. In other words, Veo 2 would perform better than Sora. In any case, while Sora can only generate videos of a few seconds, with a resolution of 1080 p, Veo 2 can create videos of several minutes in 4K resolution.

“It brings a deeper understanding of real-world physics and the nuances of human movement and expression, which helps improve detail and overall realism. Veo 2 understands the unique language of cinematography: ask it a genre, specify a lens, suggest cinematic effects and Veo 2 will take care of it”also indicates Google. In other words, it is possible to request a close-up, or even use an 18mm lens, for example.

Why you can’t use Veo 2 yet?

Google also says that Veo 2 is less likely to produce hallucinations (when the AI generates images of hands with extra fingers, for example). As a result, the results are even more realistic. However, at the moment the availability of this technology is very limited. In fact, the firm has decided to deploy Veo 2 very gradually, to be able to improve the quality and safety of artificial intelligence.

Currently, Veo 2 is only available on Google’s VideoFX video creation tool. And although Google indicates that it will increase the number of Internet users who will be able to use this tool, it is still the subject of a waiting list, and is reserved for people aged over 18 residing in UNITED STATES.

  • While OpenAI has just launched Sora, Google presents Veo 2, a new video generation model that is capable of creating even more realistic images, several minutes long and in 4K resolution
  • However, Google continues to roll out its technology gradually
  • And for the moment, Veo 2 is only available on VideoFX, a tool that is reserved for people over 18 years old and residing in the United States
