This is a welcome new option from Apple. The Cupertino company is launching a protection tool dedicated to protecting children on iMessage. Available in Australia, this option will soon be offered worldwide.
How does it work?
So far, an iPhone can automatically detect messages containing nudity that children might receive or send. When sensitive content is spotted, the young user sees two screens appear which offer them resources and the possibility of contacting a parent or manager.
The new functionality developed by the Apple brand goes much further. The minor will thus be able to report the images and videos directly to the Tech giant. His device will be able to automatically prepare a report containing the images and videos. It will include contact details for both accounts and the user can fill out a form describing what happened.
The technology company may then adopt certain measures, including disabling the offending customer’s ability to send messages from the application. Apple may also report the problem to law enforcement, specifies The Guardian.
Our colleagues also report that the deployment of this tool coincides with a legal requirement in Australia. The country hopes that by the end of 2024, all technology companies will be able to control child pornography and terrorist content on the cloud and messaging services that operate there.
Remember also that Apple is regularly under fire from law enforcement and some governments for its reluctance to compromise end-to-end encryption in iMessage for police investigations.
Google Messages also protects minors
Interestingly, this week Google Messages also introduced a sensitive content warning feature. When it rolls out, you’ll get more control over uploaded images containing nudity. These will be blurred.
