We told you about it this summer, OpenAI wants more than ever to compete with Google in real-time search with ChatGPT Search. After a waiting list and several months of development, the feature has just arrived. What is it for and how to use it? We explain everything to you.
When ChatGPT becomes real time
Until now, ChatGPT operated like a giant library, but with a major limitation: its knowledge ended in October 2023. With ChatGPT Search, OpenAI’s AI is now capable of scanning the web and giving answers based on the most current information. And it’s much faster than previous web search integration.
To take advantage of the feature, you must be a user of the paid version of ChatGPT. If you use the desktop and mobile applications, you will first need to download the latest version of ChatGPT.
Once this is done, you will see a small button appear which allows you to activate the functionality in one click:
OpenAI wants to bite Google
By integrating online search, ChatGPT wants to be much more than an artificial intelligence assistant, and wants to adapt as best as possible to all possible requests. Please note, our first quick tests of ChatGPT Search show that the tool is not 100% reliable. On our example of the NBA, we asked the question “What are the NBA results for 1/11” first and the answer gave those of the previous day.
Thanks to multiple partnerships, you can now access real-time information, the stock market, the weather and maps.
For now access is reserved for Pro or Team membersas well as to certain people who have registered on the OpenAI waiting list. A launch date for free users has not been communicated by the company.
